Mathew Welch joined Temasek Holdings on 1 Sep 2007 as a Managing Director, in the Investment Group, with a focus on Financial Institutions. Prior to Temasek, Mathew was from Standard Chartered Bank where he was the Global Head of Banks, Client Relationships, managing FI-Banks business throughout Asia-Pacific, Americas, Europe and MEPA since 2006. He joined StanChart in 2003 as Regional Head of Financial Institutions, Asia.
Before joining StanChart, Mathew was a Director with Merrill Lynch Investment Banking, FIG - Asia Pacific from 2000, and with ABN Amro Bank as Head of Asia-Pacific Strategy & Acquisition Unit from 1998. From 1993 to 1998, he was a consultant with McKinsey & Co’s Financial Institutions practice based in Hong Kong and Singapore, which he left as an Associate Principal. He started his career in 1986 with HSBC, holding various positions in Hong Kong and Thailand. Mathew graduated from Harvard Business School in 1993 as a Baker Scholar; and has an MA in Oriental Studies (Chinese) from the University of Oxford. |
